The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in implementing video review technology.
Replay systems will be launched at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.
Athletes will gain the ability to challenge particular decisions from the official, following the protocol already in use at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
This innovation will be accessible on the main stadium and the number one court throughout the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles contests.
This development follows just a season following the AELTC rolled out electronic line calling, which brought an end to the centuries-old role of line judges.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Competitors cannot to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can ask for the umpire to re-examine specific decisions, including:
- If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball touched an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
- Possible interference end of a rally.
Importantly, there will be an unlimited number on the number of reviews a competitor can ask for.
Practical Application
A recent example took place in a recent tournament recently, where a top player initiated the review system against Jack Draper.
The British player conceded it was a difficult situation for the official, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
The umpire watched a video and ruled the player was guilty of hindrance, granting the point to his opponent.
Wider Implementation
This technology aren't exclusive to Grand Slams. It was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have video reviews in place at all of its events.
Additional Innovations
Another change at Wimbledon this year will be the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses situations where spectators have occasionally been uncertain if a shot was in or out.
Finally, with exactly a century of days remaining until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have also announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
